REVIEW: Turkey & Trimmings by Tesco

I know I said I wasn’t going to do a review every day, but I was in Tesco doing a shop, saw it in the fridge and it looks like old habits die hard. Yeah, we tend to switch between Lidl and Tesco for The Shop. It all depends what you need that week. Lidl has pretty much everything covered, but sometimes you need some specifics you can only get in the big Tesco. These are the exciting things I have to write about these days.

Anyway, speaking of old habits, has Tesco churned out the same old turkey sandwich as every year? You bet they have! Here’s a list of all the other times I’ve reviewed this sandwich:

Click on them all and have a look, you might earn me 0.001p, just in time for Christmas. Apart from the packaging changing a few times and the chicken stock maybe leaving the mayonnaise in the headline ingredients, it’s been the same for at least 8 years. Bland, corporate Britain at it’s finest.

Turkey breast, Cumberland pork and lentil sausage, cranberry sauce, sage and onion stuffing and sweetcure bacon in malted bread.

The sandwich is the same every year and I think so is my review – it’s a solid sandwich. A good balance of sweet cranberry, smoky bacon and the combo of the mayo and the sage in the stuffing all works well. It always has been and always will be,if they don’t change it, a reliable benchmark Christmas sandwich. If you’re above it in the rankings, you’ve done a good job. If you’re below it, you can’t get even the basics right. And the bad news for Lidl this year is that their chewy bacon may well have dropped them below this standard.

There probably won’t be a review tomorrow as I haven’t been in the office since Monday due to train strikes. We’ll see about Friday.
