REVIEW: Festive Toasty by The Rye Cafe

It’s a welcome return to the blog for The Rye Cafe, home of the ploughman’s sandwich with the pork pie in it, winner of last year’s World Cup of Christmas sandwiches and one I’ve very much been looking forward to having again this year. And unlike Tesco, who have churned out the same sandwich for at least 8 years, the eye cafe has made tweaks! Should you mess with a World Cup winning formula? The best champions always grow and evolve to stay on the top of their game, so maybe it’s a good approach. I, for one, am sick of eating the same sandwiches every year so it’s okay with me. The proof will be in the eating, so let’s get on with it.

Roast Turkey Breast, Confit Turkey Leg, Sage and Onion Stuffing, Pig in Blanket, Cranberry Sauce, Brussel Sprout Ketchup, Crispy Onions, Butter, Granary Bread. Served with a Festive Hash Brown

Once again it’s great to eat a hot sandwich. I started with the hash brown which was golden and crispy on the outside and nice and soft in the middle. I haven’t had a good hash brown for a long time! Then I moved onto the sandwich. Nice moist turkey, a good thick sausage to bite into and all the right Christmassy flavours. A highlight for me was the stuffing – packed with flavour and all warm and gooey. As expected, a great Christmas sandwich once again!

It’s a short review today as I had my work Christmas party yesterday and I’m very tired. See you at some point next week.
