Hello. There hasn’t been an update for a while for technical reasons. I had a post lined up for Friday with a nice rant about horrible American marketing event Black Friday and a nice day by day recap of the World Cup predictions league, but WordPress decided to delete all of the updates from the cloud when I was switching between my phone and my iPad and I simply couldn’t be bothered to write it all again.
All teams at the World Cup have played two games now, so let’s take a look at the predictions league.

It has pretty much been a battle between Rolfey and Murray over the past few days with them constantly switching between 1st and 2nd place and me, desperate to win a silly little trophy I made myself, in 3rd place. In 4th place we have Triona who I’m sure won’t mind me saying doesn’t know too much about football so some of the crazy upsets have been working in her favour! I’ll probably do another proper recap on the predictions once the group stages are over. But before that we have more pressing concerns…
Yes, we have the ongoing Christmas Sandwich Review Blog 10 Year Anniversary Championship, also known as the Christmas Sandwich Cup due to character limits on Copabet, where you are all hoping your predictions for the World Cup will win you the Golden Sandwich Trophy, but now I’d like to introduce to you:
The World Cup of Christmas Sandwiches
Yep, the naming conventions are going to get confusing.
In a tenuous effort to link this years Christmas sandwich reviews to the ongoing anti-human rights event football World Cup, I will be putting 16 sandwiches against each other in a winner takes all, head-to-head tournament. In each round, the better sandwich will proceed to the next round and the losing sandwich will get reviewed. Hey, it kind of works, stick with it.
The following sandwiches will be taking part in the tournament:
- Boots
- M&S
- Sainsbury’s
- Tesco
- Costa
- Pret
- Soho Coffee Co.
- Waitrose
- Lidl
- Rye Cafe
- Subway
No, there aren’t 16 sandwiches listed there and that is because I don’t know everything I’ll be eating yet. Instead, there will be some WILDCARD spots on the fixtures. Isn’t that exciting? And before you moan that a sandwich you want to see isn’t listed, think about we don’t all get everything we want in life huh, snowflake? Maybe if Gregg’s pulled their finger out and made it obvious if they are doing Christmas sandwiches or not, they’d make the list. Maybe if Asda had some in stock the other day which is probably the only time I’m going to be in Asda before Christmas, they’d be on the list. Both still have a chance to be a wildcard but they now need to work hard and earn it now.
The even more exciting news is that I will be making the draw for the World Cup of Christmas Sandwiches tomorrow, Wednesday 30th November at 7pm GMT on my Instagram, with the first ‘match’ taking place the very next day, Thursday 1st December.

I don’t think you need to follow me to watch a live stream on Instagram but I don’t know, I don’t do things like this. We’ll find out together. You should definitely follow the sandwich blog on Facebook though, where I will be regularly reminding you about the live draw and you can come watch me awkwardly pick some names out of a hat for a few minutes.
See one or two of you then!
