Picky Bits is a sandwich shop in Ewell which is a small town pretty close to where I live now. There is very nice craft beer tap room there that lets me feel like I’m still a Zone 3 hipster. All the pubs near me mainly have lager on tap.
We have to get something out of the way before we get onto the sandwich. If you know me, you will have already guessed that I absolutely hate the name Picky Bits. It’s a bit too wooden Live. Laugh. Love. sign for me. I am sorry to the owner for any offence caused by these comments, it’s my problem, not yours. I love Arsenal, but that North London Forever song they’ve starting forcing Arsenal fans to adopt as an anthem makes me cringe (to the point my genitals shrivel up inside me and drop off, floating around inside my guts). Maybe it’s the people online who’ve never been to a match saying that the song gives them goosebumps that really make me want to vomit. We don’t have to have a song just because other teams have one, it’s fine. So I block out the song and concentrate on what I like.
The important thing here is the sandwiches, and they are very good sandwiches and they are very much worth the 40 minute round trip from home to get one. The cookies also deserve a special mention, incredible stuff.
I did see Picky Bits post Live. Laugh. Lunch. on the socials a while back whilst I was taking a nose around before writing this, and that did make me laugh. And want lunch. Still not sure how much I want to live though. I think Moan. Laugh. Lunch. would be more appropriate for me. It would also be a good name for this blog. Can I get that as a wooden sign?
Right, onto the sandwich!

British free range turkey & a fat pig in blanket, creamy brie, homemade cranberry mulled wine sauce, crispy onions, gravy mayo & rocket all served on soft sandwich loaf.
The crispy onions and cranberry sauce hit you straight away and they go greart with the cheesy flavour from the brie. There is proper thick chunky turkey and the sausages, the type of sausage you know are good because they are bursting with flavour, combine well with the stuffing. I always like a bit of rocket to add some seasoning and every bite has an aftertaste that comes back to that brie, which is lovely.
You get a lot in this sandwich, all the right flavours and it’s big so you feel like you are eating something nice, big and Christmassy. I got in a right mess eating it and my only regret is that a bit of sausage fell out of the sandwich, hit the floor and got covered in fluff and cat hair so failed the 3 second rule. A cracking sandwich and a shame they weren’t around for the World Cup of Christmas Sandwiches last year.
I must admit that I was quite taken by the idea of the Moan. Laugh. Lunch. wooden sign so I asked an AI to make one and it came up with some great stuff!
