REVIEW: Turkey Feast by Lidl

Well I was in that client meeting on Monday, so I cued up another review for you lovely readers for today as I didn’t know if I’d have time to write another one before today. I’m still not planning to do a review every weekday, but so far you have got three in a row you lucky little things. I was doing the shopping in Lidl and this cheeky sandwich was looking out at me from the shelf and I thought ‘why not?’. The obvious answer to that is because I said you can’t be bothered this year. I supposed I could’ve just eaten it and not reviewed it, but who am I trying to kid? Although I may as well have not bothered because…

British turkey breast, pork, sage & onion stuffing, cranberry sauce, beechwood smoked streaky bacon with fried onion and mayonnaise served on malted bread

Yes, it’s the same as last year and the year before that and presumably every year back until the dawn of time (you can check through the blog yourselves and get my ad revenue up). After two different sandwiches this year, we’re back to the maddening routine, but more on that tomorrow.

Generally, the Lidl Christmas sandwich is a good one. It made the semi-final of the sandwich World Cup last year! And once again, it is a solid sandwich. The taste of the stuffing comes through strongly, with a nice kick of cranberry. The only downside is that the bacon was a little bit chewy. Is that enough to give this a bad mark? I’m still deciding.

After Gail’s great but not quite Christmassy sandwich and Sainsbury’s good, Christmassy but not turkey sandwich, it’s nice to get to basics for a bit but it’s just a shame most of the supermarkets just churn out the same thing every year with no innovation.
